What?: Read-A-Thon is a month-long period of reading books, keeping track of what you read, and collecting points which will qualify you for prizes.
When?: Read-A-Thon begins on February 1st and ends on March 1st, which is also Read Across America Day.
How Does It Work?: Every student will make a special commitment to reading during this time period. The goal is that the person on campus will read at least one book during this month.
However, why stop at one book? The more books you read, the more points you collect. The more points you collect, the more likely you are to win a Barnes and Noble gift card. At the end of the month, we will add up the points, and the top person in each level will win a $15 gift card to Barnes and Noble. The one person with the most points the school will win a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card!
How do we collect points?: TK, K, 1, and 2 students collect points by reading books on their own, or having a bigger person at home read books to them. You will collect 1 point for every book you read or listen to. You will have a score sheet to keep track , and the big person who read to you or your grown-up at home will initial the score sheet to confirm that you earned the points.
Students in 3rd- 8th grade earn points by reading a book, listing the book on your score sheet, and having the adult at home confirm (by initialing your entry) that you read the book. Every week (probably on Friday)someone from your class will report at assembly how many points your class has earned.
Friday, March 1, which is a minimum day, we will add up the points and award the prizes. There will be one prize for people in TK- 2nd, 1 prize for people in 3rd-5th, and 1 prize for people in 6th-8th. A Grand Prize Winner, the person with the most points in the school, will win an additional $50 Barnes and Noble gift card.
Anything else we should know? Yes, We are asking you to find at least 5 sponsors who will give the school a donation for every book you read.
Good Luck! God Bless! Enjoy the world of books!
