Dear St. Thomas Family:

Read-a-Thon has ended, and we read almost 600 hours outside of school!  The three winners of Barnes & Noble gift cards are Ryan Marquez 1st grade in the TK-2 category, Yshael Obias  5th grade in the 3rd-5th category, and Coco Munoz 6th grade in the  6th-8th category.  Not only did each of them win a $15.00 Barnes & Noble Gift Card, but Mayor of Riverside, Mayor Rusty Bailey came to school to present the certificates and cards to our hard-working readers.  He stayed to read a Dr. Seuss book to our TK through 3rd grade students.  Congratulations to all who took part in the Read-a-Thon and our thanks to Mayor Bailey for giftng us with his time.

Please remember to reset your clocks this weekend for Daylight Savings time.  We are Springing Forward!

A note about Subway:  They can no longer accept credit cards for your child’s lunch order.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

I hope everyone knows we had to cancel Track this year because we did not have enough students express interest to field a team and make the fees charged by the schools who host the meets reasonable.

Next Thursday, Pennies for Patients ends, as does Mixed Bags.

Also next week, Thursday, marks the end of the 2nd Trimester.  Report cards will go home the week of March 9th. Parents:  please be sure you are logging on to Gradelink to check on your student’s progress.  I am very concerned this year about the grades earned by our upper grades—mainly 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.  With all the distractions available to our children, we need to remind them that homework and long-term projects should be their priorities.  I have spoken to the classes as a whole and to some individuals privately.  An “F” grade is never excusable and is absolutely unnecessary.  Almost always, an “F” means the student did not complete the required assignment, did not turn it in, or did not study before a quiz or test.  We are your partners in your child’s education.  However, you must help us in what we do, and students must do their part as well.  The ability to participate in sports or Student Leadership requires passing grades.  Only one more Trimester to go.  Let’s get serious!
