St. Thomas the Apostle School News
Let me wish you all a belated Happy New Year! The whole St. Thomas School Family prays your year starts and ends in prayer, peace, and prosperity. Thanks for all you have done for the school. As a Parish, St. Thomas the Apostle is a shining star of generosity and support in our Diocese. Bless you!
Good things happening at the school this year include that we were fortunate enough to receive another grant of iPads for our students. We received 30 more just at the beginning of Christmas break, so it was a Merry Christmas for that and many other reasons. We have some work to do to prepare the iPads for student use, but in the next month or so the fifth grade will have increased access to our technology to supplement and enhance their education.
Our WCEA/WASC Accreditation is scheduled for the week of Feb. 25. Keep us in prayer because it is an important process that we have been working on for the past year. Being accredited means that a school is offering a solid education to its students. The WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) team handles the academic and financial end of the school’s business. WCEA (Western Catholic Educational Association) researches and approves the Catholic Identity of a school. Both are essential to any school worthy of the support of its Parish, parents, and the Diocese. We have labored to present an accurate picture of our beloved little school.
Catholic Schools Week—Jan. 27-Feb.2—will bring our usual run of special events to celebrate who we are. Highlighting the week is our Grandparents Day festivities. If you are a grandparent of a St. Thomas student, please RSVP that you will be coming to lunch at the school and will attend the 9:00 School Mass. The date is Thursday, Jan. 31. Call the school office, (951) 689-1981.
We honor those members of the school family who have stood out this year for their service and support. It is always a difficult job to choose because so many people pour their hearts and souls into our Ministry and our children. This year we are celebrating these three: Volunteer—Mrs. Nellie Wren; Staff Member—Mrs. Neveen Farag; Teacher—Ms. Valerie Lopez. These outstanding members of our community will be honored at a special banquet put on by the Office of Catholic Schools for all the nominees across the Diocese on Feb. 2. We are so blessed to have such loving people supporting us.
The Father Joe Tuition Assistance Fund has entered its 2nd year. So far this year we have collected $12, 023.00 to support our families who need help to send their children to Catholic school. Thanks to all who continue to support our worthy cause. Also, thanks to Fr. Frank who always says “yes” when we ask for help.
Blessings on all. St. Thomas the Apostle School appreciates all your help.
